Every donation helps CHS students further their education

Many years ago, a prominent man in our community, Mr. Paul Ruth, had a vision: To provide an organized structure for people to share the blessings of their lives with future generations. Paul and a core group of people including: Bernie Ailts, Bernard Madsen, Lloyd Kopperud, Millard Hayek, Dr. DT Nelson, Fran Beecher, Jody Olson, and Richard Birk, worked tirelessly to further that vision and established the Blue & Gold Foundation.

Since 1985, Blue & Gold has provided a structure for people to share the blessings of their lives with future generations. Over $750,000 in scholarships have been awarded to graduates of Canby High School through the Blue and Gold Foundation. Blue and Gold conducts fundraisers, accepts gifts, and invests bequests to generate revenue to fund both general scholarships as well as gifts with given specific conditions.

Our Fund Administration

The Southwest Initiative Foundation provides an umbrella of services for Blue and Gold. It serves as a fiduciary repository for perpetual endowments. It also provides a wide range of investment choices and technical support for non-profit fund raising. The most notable services that The Southwest Initiative Foundation provides our receipts of gifts for donors for tax purposes. Its 501c3 non-profit tax status allows donors legal tax credit for gifts of all sizes. The Southwest Initiative Foundation will issue the tax receipt but the entire amount of the gift and accrued investment proceeds (minus a 1% annual administration fee) will be directed by the local Blue and Gold Foundation.

For most it evokes warm memories of childhood in a place that was safe, nurturing, and caring. Regardless of whether you called Canby home in your youth or have lived here your entire life, it is a place you care about because of the strong connection with family, friends, and memories of the place that is home.

Because Canby has been a place that nurtured you and made you feel at home, you may be thinking about a way to give back. You want to ensure that it continues to be that caring community that helped you or your children get off to the right start.

We can help you achieve that goal! A gift to the Blue & Gold Foundation is an investment in HOME! The Blue & Gold Foundation ensures that every student who graduates from Canby High School and goes on to post-secondary education (including colleges, universities, vocational and technical colleges or any other accredited program) will receive a $1,200 scholarship toward their educational goals.

The proceeds of the endowment will be held and administered by the Blue & Gold Foundation..
